I am curious as to what you feel the role might be for celebrities to teach "the public" about risk perception when it comes to their health. I work in cancer research and we saw an enormous rise in colorectal cancer screening rates when Katie Couric publicized her own colonoscopy. This was even documented in the Archives in Internal Medicine. I know from working with the CDC that there is still insufficient evidence to support that a multi-media campaign to promote colorectal cancer screening is effective, but if one campaign has worked so far, its been the one with the celebrity.- Shari (Teachers College, '94)
